Caesarstone

Everyone’s favourite builder, Scott Cam, actually manages to spend a little time in the kitchen from time to time, so when it was time for a renovation, he naturally chose Caesarstone® for his benchtop and splashback.

About Scott Cam

A carpenter for 32 years, Scott Cam was ‘discovered’ at a pub, and encouraged to audition for TV show Backyard Blitz, leading to a longtime career in front of the camera. He’s been the host of ratings leader The Block since 2010, has won Gold and Silver Logies and has written a number of best-selling books – all with his trademark Aussie good humour and showcasing his down-to-earth building knowledge.

Style and practicality rule in the new kitchen for the host of The Block, Scott Cam. Sleek black cabinetry and a dream stove are the perfect match for Caesarstone ExcavaTM. Here, Scotty talks about what he loves about his renovation and why Caesarstone was such a good choice for the hard-working areas of the new space.

1. What is the concept behind using Caesarstone?

I have been a big fan of Caesarstone for years – it has been a frequent partner on The Block. We’ve used it before in our home and liked its durability and range of finishes. I think the whole look of Caesarstone is what drove us to use it – it adds an extra layer of luxury to a kitchen.

2. You chose Caesarstone ExcavaTM for your kitchen benchtop. What do you like about the surface?

I like its organic look; it almost has a volcanic feel – ancient rock comes to mind.

We love the finished benchtop with splashback. It has a great texture and it is just so durable. It’s also incredibly practical and easy to clean.

3. Tell us about the kitchen renovation project. What were the must-haves for you and the family?

We have three kids – and they are all growing up fast. We wanted a big stove for big family cook-ups and a steam oven is something we had before and love it. And a coffee machine – we wanted the kitchen to become the hub of the house and I think we achieved that well.

4. What do you need to keep in mind when renovating a kitchen?

I always look to the practical sides of any renovation. Take your time to make the rights decisions before you start. Be aware that if you move your services such as a sink, gas, stove etc it will cost you. Electricals can be a hidden cost as well, especially if you make dramatic changes. I kept the movement of these to a minimum to save money.

5. What do you love about your job?

I’m very lucky to be the host of The Block, a show I love to work on and hope to for more years to come. I love the fact that I get to mix two things I enjoy – building and presenting. I get to work with great friends in a family-like environment and every day is different.
