56 Novus: A Bold Expression of Material and Light in Brisbane

Exterior of 56 Novus by Sunstone Property Group showcasing concrete walls, timber cladding and contemporary architectural form in Brisbane
The exterior of Novus 56 Thomas St, Auchenflower

Set among the leafy streets of Auchenflower in Brisbane’s inner west, 56 Novus is a bold architectural home shaped by purposeful material and colour choices. Developed by Sunstone Property Group, the project explores how contrast, scale and texture can support everyday family life while delivering a refined sense of luxury.

Rather than relying on colour alone, Novus uses tone, depth and material expression to define its spaces. Dark surfaces, warm timbers and raw concrete are balanced by generous ceiling heights and natural light, creating interiors that feel grounded and confident.

Caesarstone® Porcelain Smokestone

Bold Tones at the Heart of the Home

The kitchen sits at the centre of the home, where volume and materiality work in harmony. Four-metre ceilings give the space breathing room, allowing darker surfaces to feel expansive rather than heavy.

Caesarstone® Porcelain Smokestone

Caesarstone® Porcelain Smokestone is used across the island benchtop, splashback and other key surfaces, chosen for its depth and visual energy. With its midnight-black base and chalk-white calcite veining, Smokestone introduces movement and character, creating a strong focal point within the open-plan layout. The Ultra Rough finish enhances its tactile quality, reinforcing the kitchen’s bold yet refined presence.

Paired with black and walnut joinery, off-form concrete walls and brushed gunmetal fixtures, the palette feels cohesive and intentional. Each element amplifies the next, with the porcelain surface anchoring the space while responding beautifully to changing light throughout the day.

A Softer Expression in the Bathroom

In the bathrooms, the material story shifts to one of calm and clarity. Intense White, from the Caesarstone ICON™ Advanced Mineral Surfaces range is used across the vanity, offering a refined counterpoint to the home’s darker architectural elements.

A bright white base is detailed with delicate translucent sparks, adding subtle texture without distraction. Set against concrete walls and timber cabinetry, Intense White feels clean, balanced and timeless, creating bathrooms that are practical, restorative and visually composed.

Porcelain Built for Modern Living

Novus reflects a design approach centred on longevity and considered material choices. Caesarstone Porcelain is increasingly specified for benchtops due to its durability, heat resistance and non-porous performance.
