For Grand Design Kitchens owner and head designer Javier Rezzonico, it took some big ideas to make the most of a small space for the new kitchen of renowned chef Sean Connolly of Sydney's Star Casino Astral restaurant.
Sean wanted a contemporary, airy and practical kitchen with plenty of bench space fit for an award-winning chef who's more accustomed to an industrial scale kitchen.
Limited to the floor plan of the existing kitchen, Javier took advantage of the tall ceilings by adding a second tier of additional storage space which is now home to large pots and other items which aren't used very often.
Every bit of available space was utilised to the fullest extent, with the narrow space next to the fridge even cleverly incorporating a tall corner pantry for food storage.
As the focal point of the kitchen, Sean chose Caesarstone Swan Lake for the bench tops from the new Caesarstone Supremo collection.
Boasting an 80mm thick profile, the Caesarstone Swan Lake bench tops and waterfall sides make a dramatic statement by creating a brighter, more modern ambiance while also increasing the usable bench space.
"We made the island bench much wider. We got a shock at how imposing it was after it was installed, but now we love it - it really works!" said Sean.
The thicker profile also meant that the bench height was raised to 940mm overall - 40mm higher than standard - to accommodate appliances such as the oven and dishwasher but Sean felt that this was a more comfortable height to work with anyway.
The island bench also features an under mount sink which maintains the clean and elegant appearance of the Caesarstone Swan Lake bench, matched with an industrial-sized mixer tap which was more accustomed to the award-winning chef.
